The Social Democrats are planning to launch a government inquiry which will carry out a major review of the country's migration legislation, arguing that years of piecemeal reforms have made the rules unnecessarily complicated and contradictory.

I am an immigrant who works as global director for IT company and I see Sweden as a globalized country. Instead of using the country's resources on conducting tests, its better that all the tax money are spent on future developments like AI, R&D and electrification of automobiles where ever possible . I see Sweden as a Global Tech Leader and focussing too much on nitty gritties like language minimizes its the global appeal. Its a request that do consider English proficiency tests as well as it is very obvious that highly educated , highly skilled people and high and honest tax payers like me who come to this country know that they need basic Swedish for survival (groceries, shopping, restaurants, work) and we have done the needful for survival but don't make it a compulsion as investing two years in SFI courses with my full time senior leadership role is very stressful. So my earnest request please do consider English proficency certificates as well

While all this is welcome, more teens will get deported. Sweden should be ashamed that they let this continue. It’s a mess created by the Social Democrats that the Tidö government didn’t fix either. It’s only Center and MP that pushed for teen deportation to stop. Why did the Social democrats take so long to acknowledge that this is a mess and push for faster resolution? Now they do this because it’s election time. What will happen in the meantime? Will teen deportations continue? What happens if these teens whose cases are pending, turn 22 in the meantime?

Hopefully they will look at straightening out some of the effects of past laws that were discriminatory against women. Most European countries with similar discriminatory laws have worked to ‘fix’ the effects of these past laws. Sweden has not. For example, before 1979 a Swedish citizen woman lost her right to pass citizenship to her children when she got married. How is that enforced today by migrationverket? A child of a married Swedish citizen woman born before 1979 has no standing or recognition in any way whatsoever by the Swedish government today. They are no different than a tourist stepping off a cruise ship for the first time in Sweden. A child of a married Swedish citizen man born before 1979 has all the rights available to a person born and recognized as a Swedish citizen. The only difference is the gender of their Swedish citizen parent at birth.

This patchwork didn't start with Tidö, it's a decade-plus in the making, across both blocs. The Migration Agency's own director-general said back in 2023 that the rules had gotten so tangled, with every coalition cramming in its own pet issues, that even his staff couldn't keep up, and that's before most of the current government's changes. Pinning this on the current majority ignores the S's hand in building the earlier layers. The bigger issue is: nothing here promises better outcomes for immigrants. The complaint is that case officers can't tell how to apply rules that clash is more of a bureaucratic headache, not a fairness problem. You can "fix" a contradiction by making it easier to deport just as easily as by making it easier to stay. Consistency ≠ leniency. And since the S keep saying strict migration policy stays no matter who wins, this "overhaul" is about running the strict system smoother, not making it less brutal for the people stuck in it.

We share this for sure: 'let them handle the consequences' But it is not just them, it is the poor immigrants and other Swedes too.
